Weather on this trip:

Average high temperature would be around 20°C & low temperature can go down to 12°C.

Weather – Cairns:

During October in Cairns, it is the end of dry season. The resort's magnificent beaches, natural wonders, friendly people and a vibrant dining and entertainment scene are Cairns major tourist highlights.

Average high temperature would be around 25°C and low temperature can go down to 20°C.

Weather – Sydney:

October in Sydney, the weather will be warm and sunny. But temperatures do drop at night. You may need a jacket for evenings.

Average high temperature would be around 22°C and low temperature of 18°C.

Weather – Hobart:

Hobart in October will be cold. Temperature ranges from 6°C to 16°C. At night the temperatures can drop a little more.

Average high temperature would be around 16°C and low temperature of 7°C.

Clothing and what to carry:

Since the weather is consistent across most of the destinations (ranging from 25°C to a drop to 6°C), please plan your clothing accordingly. A light sweatshirt, plenty of sunscreen, strong sun block, sun glasses, hats, a good pair of walking shoes would be good to carry.

You can plan to layer up and carry a sweatshirt, gloves, hat, long trousers, thermals, wool socks and a really good pair of shoes. Do not forget really good sunglasses and total sun block.

Taxis and getting around:

The best guide to get around is Google Maps. This will give you both the cab options and as well as the public transfers. For the public transfer options in Google Maps, please use the “Arrive By option” to plan your departure time.

Tipping

While tips are appreciated no matter where you travel, tipping in Europe isn't as automatic nor as generous as it is in the other countries, and in many countries, do they not expected at all.

At hotels, you can pay $2 to a doorman who helps you get a taxi in the rain or $2 to $5 for the bellhop carrying bags up to your rooms.

For tour guides, again, service has to be included in the price of the tour. But if the guide has been excellent, you may want to slip them a token amount – say $10 per couple. This is very much a "thank you" rather than something relied upon, however, again you can tip as you wish if you really enjoyed the tour.

For taxis, Tips are not expected, but always appreciated

"With taxis, you might tip $2 or 10 percent of journey. Taxi drivers may legally add the value of the toll to return to where they began the journey, so a tip on top of this additional charge can be excessive – especially when you know they will likely pick up a fare on their way back."

Many travelers will just round up a fare to the nearest five dollars – often due to not wanting to fight with change rather than being overcome by a spirit of great generosity. If the cabbie hauls your bags and zips you to the airport to help you catch your flight, you might want to toss in a little more. But if you feel like you're being driven in circles or are being ripped off, please skip the tip.

Quick tips

  • Please carry your personal water bottles when on tours. There are free, drinking, water fountains everywhere and you can fill water at these stations.
  • You can buy gifts and souvenirs at super markets rather than the shops when you on the walking tour – since they are a lot cheaper at the super markets.
  • Please carry bags / backpacks that can also be locked. Since you will be leaving your bags in multiple places it is best if they can be locked
  • Please refer to the clothing section in the itinerary on what to pack
  • You can carry some ready to eat snacks or Indian food items like pickles or powders or ready to eat mixes – since it is a long trip one normally tends to miss home food :). There are many Indian restaurants in all the cities, so you can also try them when feel home-sick. Vegetarian local food is available in plenty like pizza, pasta etc. and will also be a lot cheaper
  • Once again the best place to buy breads, cheese, jams, quick eats is the local super market
  • Please carry a few passport size photographs with you – this may come in handy when you are buying a local SIM Card or applying for any special permits etc
  • Always carry an identification card on you. Some of the tours may want to verify your name
  • Please be careful with your belongings when you travel especially when going on the group tours and traveling on public transportation
  • Please ensure that the FOREX Card is loaded. You can also carry some local currency in cash for quick tips or easy purchases you may need to make when you land
